At Toyota Central R&D Labs., Inc., our aim is to make discoveries and create the technologies for an unpredictable future. The Core Technology Division and the Strategic Research Division are facing up to a wide range of challenges.

Electrification
We are researching technologies to help reduce the size and to improve the efficiency and reliability of EVs and PHVs as well as to comprehensively improve performance.
Mass Management
We are proposing new ways of combining manufacturing processes and lightweight materials from the structural design phase to help realize ultra-lightweight, safe, comfortable, and low-cost vehicles.
Energy Management and CO2 Zero Emission
We are researching ways of eliminating CO2 emissions through the use of alternative energies, and of reducing the CO2 emitted by production and other processes during manufacturing.
Intelligent Mobility
We are endeavoring to achieve safe and comfortable automated driving in all circumstances by merging sensor, recognition, decision-making, control and other technologies from multiple fields.
Batteries and Fuel Cell
We are researching the efficient use of energy spanning everything from motor systems for hybrid, electric, and fuel cell vehicles to new materials for batteries and fuel cells and innovative manufacturing processes.
Powertrains
In addition to refinements of engines, drivetrains and catalysts that make combustion gases non-harmful, we are developing new mechanisms and functions of these elements of vehicles.

We are researching the foundations of data science such as learning and inference systems that form the core of AI. We envision a variety of applications beyond automated driving for this research.
Human Science
We are researching human models capable of feeling, thinking, and moving, with the aim of enhancing comfort and health, which are two of the foundations of human happiness.
Materials Informatics Research
We are applying the new method of materials informatics in the material development process to enable the creation of material structures starting from the required characteristics.

Social Systems Research
We are looking inside and outside the automotive industry to consider what society will need in the future and how we can live happier and more productive lives.

Bioinspired Systems Research
We are striving to create new bioinspired engineering systems using the power of data to analyze the dynamics behind the growth, adaptation, and evolution of living creatures.
Strategic Innovative Research and Frontier Research
Researchers propose and lead their own research. We are promoting the individual research projects that will become the mainstream of research at TCRDL in the future.
